Hermes Tie Review: Whimsical Sheep

Whimsical Jumping Sheep
Many of you are in college now, myself included, and it is time to start searching for spring/summer internships. When looking for a position in an administrative field or going to a job interview, you are limited to what you can wear as a male. I personally feel as though a well fitted suit/clean cut and being confident is sufficient enough. However, a nice tie can be considered as a statement piece that can even change people's perception about you.

After purchasing a few cheap ties, I felt as though this was the prime opportunity to purchase a quality tie. If you read my review of the Thomas Pink tie, you will know that ties of this caliber command a higher price tag and to avoid breaking the bank, looking for a used tie on Ebay is your best bet. This particular tie is by Hermes, known for their beautiful designs and is referred to as, "Whimsical Jumping Sheep". This was purchased for $30 and has no stains (however I did notice that some of the loop stitching on the back was coming loose).

Geometric Pattern (58in x 3.5in)

This first thing to be cautious about Ebay Tie listings is the pictures. Hermes ties in general, have a matte finish and this tie in particular looked lime green in the pictures. To my relief, it turned out to be very subdued and not tacky looking. As for the pattern, nearly all Hermes tie patterns move in a 11 to 5 direction (good way to authentic them). Obviously, the "whimsical" look is not for everyone but, I find that most people don't notice it unless they are talking face to face with you and really stare at your tie. If sheep are not your thing, a quick Ebay search will show that there an endless amount of designs for you to choose from and you can expect to pay about 40 to 80 dollars for one. Note: If you are looking for an interview tie, I highly recommend going with a blue or yellow one with a striped or dot pattern.

Quality
As I mentioned earlier, this is not your off the rack tie and it really shows. Hermes is known for their hand stitching and materials. Both my Hermes ties are silky smooth and when you tie it, it drapes really well and makes a great knot. If you don't get any stains on it and keep it in good condition, this is a tie that can last a lifetime.
